Clapham is set to become an even better place to do business after it was voted yes in favour of setting up a new Business Improvement District (BID), following a postal ballot on Friday 25 July 2014.
The result was announced on by Lambeth Council who carried out the ballot with 79% of businesses voting in favour and 89% in rateable value also in agreement. The ballot had a turnout of 40%.
The Clapham BID is set to provide a range of different services for businesses with these initiatives officially set to begin from 1 October 2014. Clapham BID services include promoting the area to increase customer footfall, saving on business costs through bulk purchasing options and providing additional cleaning and greening services. Other initiatives also include providing taxi marshals and ambassadors to make the area’s popular night-time offerings more welcoming and safe for local visitors and residents.
Commenting on the result, Dave Hanson, Chair of the Clapham Business Community, who ran BID campaign, said: “We are delighted that Clapham businesses have shown their overwhelming support for the BID. Now we look forward to working with businesses of all type and sectors to ensure Clapham continues to thrive. The BID will not only give us the opportunity to carry out exciting projects, but give Clapham businesses a strong voice in matters which are important to us.”
